Modifiers for the PVC-processing industry

Kane Ace™ B
Impact modifiers for rigid PVC

Kane Ace B represents highly efficient MBS (methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene) impact modifiers for rigid and semi-rigid PVC.

The extensive Kane Ace™ B product range includes tailored grades optimized for the specific requirements of a wide variety of applications. They impart excellent impact strength to the final product – whether opaque or crystal-clear – and are particularly well-suited for use in food and pharmaceutical blister packaging. Other typical application areas for MBS impact modifiers include films, sheets, bottles, pipes, molded parts, and more.

The MBS core-shell structure consists of a butadiene-based rubber core that absorbs or dissipates impact energy, and a graft layer of methyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer enclosing the core. This graft layer improves adhesion and compatibility between the polymer matrix and the impact modifier.

Kane Ace™ PA
Processing aids

Kane Ace PA products are processing aids – specifically, high-molecular-weight acrylic copolymers – that are highly compatible with PVC. When added to PVC compounds in small quantities, they efficiently improve PVC gelation, transforming slow, uneven melting into a rapid, uniform process. Furthermore, Kane Ace PA significantly enhances the melt strength and extensibility of PVC compounds – properties essential for production processes such as blow molding, film blowing, and thermoforming. In addition to optimizing processing, these additives improve the PVC surface quality, shifting the finish from matte to the desired level of gloss.

Acrylic processing aids with ultra-high molecular weight are available for use in foam applications, such as PVC foam boards, profiles, or foam-core pipes. The uniform, fine-celled foam structures enable excellent surface properties.

Special grades with lubricant properties (external or internal) as well as mold-release functions have been developed for foamed PVC products, window profiles, and PVC films.

Kane Ace™ FM / UF / EST
Weather resistance & impact modification

These all-acrylic Kane Ace™ impact modifiers are high-performance products that have established themselves as a benchmark in the market for durable outdoor PVC applications. They deliver outstanding impact resistance and ensure excellent weatherability – and thus durability. In addition, they feature a wide processing window, allowing for great processing flexibility. Key application areas include window profiles, facade cladding, pipes, and furniture foils.

The core-shell structure of these product groups consists of an acrylic rubber core that absorbs and dissipates impact energy, as well as an acrylic graft layer. This shell layer improves adhesion to the polymer matrix and facilitates dispersion.

Kaneka Telalloy™
Heat dissipation & impact modification

Under the trade name Kaneka Telalloy™, Kaneka offers a highly effective modifier based on an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer for increasing the heat deflection temperature of PVC. It is used in profiles, injection molding applications, and film calendering.

Due to its excellent compatibility with PVC and CPVC, Telalloy allows for a wide processing window.

The increase in the Vicat value can be adjusted linearly by varying the dosage.

The products are supplied in powder form, allowing for precise addition during the mixing process for PVC dry blends.

Kane Ace™ M
Impact modification for engineering plastics

MBS and acrylate impact modifiers based on core-shell technology have been developed to meet the specific requirements of engineering plastics. These products impart high impact strength at ambient and low temperatures, as well as good dimensional stability when exposed to heat.

The acrylate-based grades are characterized by excellent UV resistance.

Transparent solutions are also possible, depending on the matrix polymer.

Kane Ace™ MP
Matting agents

Kane Ace MP is an acrylic-based, light-diffusing, matting anti-blocking additive that helps avoid the typical loss of impact strength associated with increased matting. It offers excellent weather resistance for outdoor applications, combined with outstanding compatibility with PMMA, PC, and PVC.

Applications include matte or opaque films, (double-web) sheets, and profiles made of PMMA, PC, PVC, or ABS.
